Adenoviruses can cause a number of infectious diseases that can affect multiple organs. The Adenovirus can be transmitted by direct human-to-human contact, fecal-oral transmission, and occasionally waterborne transmissions. Although Adenoviruses are relatively harmless in healthy individuals, it can cause a variety of symptoms in children and individuals with weak immune systems. Some of these symptoms include gastroenteritis, conjunctivitis, cystitis, rash ilness, and respiratory illness ranging from the common cold syndrome to pneumonia, croup, and bronchitis.
