Candida albicans is a species of fungus that lives in 80% of humans among the gut flora. This yeast usually does not cause problems, however an overgrowth of this yeast is the leading cause of all candidiasis or yeast/fungal infections. Some symptoms include oral thrush and vaginal thrush. In individuals with weakened immune systems, the infection may become systemic, causing fungemia.
